French Ligue 1 club, Olympique Lyon, defeated the English side, Manchester City, 3-1 on Saturday to set up a semi-final clash against rampant Bayern Munich next week.
The Pep Guardiola side was the favourite going into the quarter-final clash against Lyon but came unstuck against the French side who claimed four points from the former English champions in the 2018-19 group stage.
Maxwel Cornet, who scored in both prior meetings between the sides, was on target once more midway through the first half as City struggled to get to grips with the five-man defence named by Guardiola.
Belgium playmaker, Kevin De Bruyne equalized for City past the hour mark.
But substitute Moussa Dembele restored Lyon’s lead following a contentious counter-attack with 11 minutes remaining and then added another after an Ederson error to confirm City exit from the competition at the quarter-final stage for a third consecutive season.
