The police on Wednesday arraigned a taxi driver, Elijah Chikwado, at the Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, over alleged breach of trust and cheating.
Chikwado was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The prosecutor, Mrs. Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that the matter was reported by one Christian Ibya at the Karmo Police Station on July 26.
Ukagha said the complainant gave the defendant his Golf 3 wagon car to use for commercial purposes and to remit N3, 000 daily but the defendant failed to remit the money as agreed.
She added that the defendant also damaged the car and refused to repair it.
According to the prosecutor, the total amount needed to repair the damaged car was N15, 500 in addition to the N3,000 to be remitted daily by the defendant.
She said the offences contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
Chikwado, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with a surety in like sum.
He ruled that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case till August 31 for further hearing.
