The Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, said on Thursday governors of states in the northern part of the country were opposed to the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Sunday announced the disbandment of SARS in the police commands across the 36 states in the country and Abuja following the widespread protest by Nigerians over the unit’s brutality.
Lalong, who spoke with State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said the disbanded police tactical unit had been useful in the fight against insecurity in the region.
The governor added that SARS was not made up of bad elements alone but also included personnel doing their work diligently.
