Chelsea midfielder, Mateo Kovacic was left seriously regretting his decision to go in for a handshake with the former footballing hardman, John Terry during the Chelsea vs Aston Villa Premier League match at Stamford Bridge.
National Sportslink gathered that John Terry was back at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, the first time in an official capacity since leaving Chelsea at the end of the 2016/17 season. He came back as Aston Villa’s assistant manager.
The former defender was seen at the sidelines after the match. Chelsea midfielder, Mateo Kovacic greeted Terry as he made his way to the tunnel. He then went in for a handshake but was seen wincing after being at the receiving end of a hard handshake. Terry waved him off with an apology.
Before the International break, Chelsea was on an amazing run of victories, they had scripted 6 consecutive victories in the Premier League and 7 consecutive wins on the road in all competitions. Their return to club action, however, has been less than rosy.
Both their winning streaks in the Premier League and in away matches were snapped when Manchester City beat them 2-1 at the Eithad. They then played against Valencia and looked prime to win the match.
However, a moment of carelessness from Kepa saw the Spanish side equalize. Their fortunes saw no difference when they hosted West Ham in the Premier League last week as they lost 0-1.
They finally broke their winless run during the match against Aston Villa at home. Tammy Abraham broke the deadlock in the 24th minute. Aston Villa equalized through Mahmoud Hassan just before half-time. Mason Mount then swung the match in Chelsea’s favour minutes after half-time. Chelsea went on to win the match 2-1.
Despite losing 2 out of their last 3 Premier League matches, Chelsea will now play Everton on Saturday. They sit comfortably at 4th place with 29 points. They are 3 points off Man City and 6 off from Leicester City. 5th place Wolves trail them by 6 points.
