Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Lagos State Special Offences Court, Ikeja, on Tuesday, sentenced one Akinyemi Festus to two years imprisonment for internet fraud.
Festus was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a two-count charge of internet fraud.
He was also on the wanted list of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in the United States.
In a petition dated July 10, 2019, the FBI had appealed to the commission to ensure the arrest and prosecution of Festus for his roles in a multi-million naira international scam.
The Head of Advance Fee Fraud, Ilorin Zonal office of EFCC, Olamide Sadiq, told the judge that the defendant was arrested based on a petition from the FBI linking him to the offence.
Justice Taiwo sentenced him to one-year imprisonment on each of the two counts with an option of N300, 000 fine on each of the counts.
The judge also ordered him to return the money he cornered to the FBI.
