Bayern Munich thrash Mainz 4-0 at the MEWA Arena
quarter-final ticket.
Goals from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sane and Alphonso
Davies secured the victory, while Alexander Hack was sent off late on for Mainz.
It was a dominant performance from the visitors as they booked their spot in the
German Cup quarter-finals.
Cancelo was thrown in for his debut just a day after joining from Manchester City on
an initial loan with a £61m option to buy on deadline day, following a training round
bust-up with City boss Pep Guardiola.
With their new signing in the starting XI, Bayern put in a stellar first half
performance, scoring three times to kill the game early on.
It was an important start to the match for the German champions – who face Paris St
Germain in the Champions League Round of 16 in two weeks – after they had started
the year with three consecutive draws in the Bundesliga and received significant
criticism.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting volleyed in at the far post to give Bayern the lead in the
17th minute before Jamal Musiala doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark
with a low left-footed drive that went in off the post.
Bayern kept up their intensity level and hit the woodwork with a Joshua Kimmich free
kick before scoring again two minutes before the break when Choupo-Moting flicked
on a high ball to Leroy Sane who had no trouble slotting it in from eight yards.
