Everton Football club reportedly considering Wayne Rooney or Frank Lampard
as possible coaches expected to replace Rafael Benítez
as the club’s coach on Sunday, January 16.
The Merseyside club are enduring a poor run after having won just once in the
Premier League since September, and they currently sit 15th in the table, just six
points above the relegation zone.
Wayne Rooney’s name was the first to emerge as a possible successor for Benitez,
given the fine job he’s doing at Derby County this season despite the club’s financial
problems. Sky Sports have reported that Rooney would find it hard to turn down his
boyhood club, having had two spells there as a player as well.
Another candidate is ex-Chelsea boss Frank Lampard. Like Rooney, his coaching
career began at Derby before he made the step up to the London club.
Lampard is without a job at the moment and is also being considered after he was
sacked last year by Chelsea.
According to Skysports, Everton have also put up Duncan Ferguson (on an interim
basis), Roberto Martinez who managed the club between 2013-2016, Rudi Garcia and
Brighton and Hove Albion coach, Graham Potter who’s having a great season sitting
9th on the league table, on the list.
