Anju Sehwag had contested the 2012 Delhi MCD polls as a Congress candidate from
Dakshinpuri Extension, a ward reserved for women. She had defeated her BJP rival
Arti Devi by a margin of 558 votes.

Anju had then claimed that her family had been “diehard Congress supporters for
decades” and she was the first person to join electoral politics.

The development comes as AAP gears up for the Punjab Assembly election next year.
The Arvind Kejriwal-led party is the main Opposition party in Punjab and is looking
to form the next government amid a multi-cornered fight in the state polls.
