Four men were on Wednesday arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
The four men: Alamu Waris, 22, Olaide Abiodun , 21, Adetunji Kamoru, 21, and Lekan Kazeem, 29, were charged with conspiracy and assault.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Opeyemi Olagunju, told the court that the defendants conspired to commit the offences.
Opeyemi said that the defendants on Dec. 31, 2020, at Ayedade, Asanke area of Ibadan, wilfully obstructed one Sgt. Musibau Adeleye, attached to Idi-Aro Division, Ibadan, while on lawful duty.
” The defendants allegedly assaulted Adeleye by throwing stones and also hitting him with dangerous objects.
‘The defendants allegedly hit Adeleye with stones and stick which made him sustained injury on the nose and upper lip,” he said.
He said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 516 and 356(2) of the Criminal Code of Oyo State 2000.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges, while Chief Magistrate Olaide Hamzat granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with one surety each.
He said that the sureties should preferably be parents of the defendants and adjourned the case until March 30 for hearing. (NAN)
