A TV reporter and crew were robbed at gunpoint during a live broadcast – as
they filmed the masked man pointing a revolver at them before he escaped.
Ecuadorian sports journalist Diego Ordinola was on camera at lunchtime outside

A man wearing a face mask and cap appeared and pointed a handgun at the journalist
while demanding he hand over his phone.
One member of the crew handed over their phones. The man then ran off,
with the TV crew later following him and spotting him speeding away from the scene
on a motorbike.
Mr Ordinola tweeted the footage of the incident, writing alongside it:
‘We can’t even work quietly, this happened at 1 pm today outside the Monumental
The Policía Nacional del Ecuador promised to find these criminals.’ The video has
since been shared thousands of times, with one follower even stating that he has
the number plate of the getaway bike
Mr Ordinola later added online: ‘Thank you all for your messages of solidarity,
I appreciate you very much. Let’s unite to eradicate crime in Ecuador.’
