Lewis Hamilton signs £40m-a-year Mercedes contract
Lewis Hamilton has committed his future to Mercedes and signed a new contract to race in Formula One.
The seven-time world champion’s deal with the all-conquering Silver Arrows expired on the final day of
December.
It was understood that Hamilton was holding out for a three-year deal, while the Silver Arrows were reluctant to
agree to those terms.
But the two parties have finally agreed, with Hamilton’s mega-money contract now confirmed
ahead of the new season which gets underway in Bahrain on March 28.
Hamilton has won six of his seven world championships with Mercedes and is favorite to land No.8 this season,
which will see him surpass Michael Schumacher with an unrivaled title haul.
As well as his historic title triumph, he also surpassed Schumacher’s record of 91 race wins with his triumph in
Portugal in October, while in December he landed the BBC Sports Personality of the Year for a second time.
That SPOTY accolade was soon followed by a knighthood, with Hamilton confirmed as a Sir in the New Year
Honors list.
