Legendary Italy striker Paolo Rossi dies aged 64
Italy legend Paolo Rossi, who was part of the side which won the 1982 World Cup and won the Ballon d’Or in the
same year, has passed away at the age of 64
The performance is regarded as one of the best performances ever seen in a World Cup, considering Brazil’s
status as one of the favorites going into the tournament.
Rossi spent his entire career in Italy, winning Serie A on two occasions and helping Juve to the 1984 European Cup.
After retirement, Rossi took up a career in punditry, working for the Italian outlet RAI Sport.
The former Juventus and AC Milan favorite won 48 caps for his country as well as two Serie A titles and a European Cup.
His death was announced in the early hours of the morning by Italian TV channel RAI Sport, where he had been
working as a pundit.
Presenter Enrico Varriale said: “Such terribly sad news: Paolo Rossi has left us.
“Unforgettable Pablito, who made all of us fall in love in that summer of 1982 and who was a precious and
competent work colleague in RAI over recent years.
“RIP dear Paolo.”
His cause of death is not yet known.
