Thomas Partey to resume training with Arsenal team-mates
Mikel Arteta has confirmed Thomas Partey will train with his Arsenal team-mates today as he bids
to prove his fitness ahead of this weekend’s north London derby against Tottenham.
Midfielder Thomas Partey suffered a thigh injury before the international break against Aston Villa.
The Ghana midfielder was once again absent as Arsenal smashed Rapid Vienna 4-1 in the Europa League
on Thursday night. Asked to provide an update on Partey’s fitness following the victory,
Arteta said: ‘He’s putting a lot of pressure on us.
He’s a player that is so willing, that is pushing us every day and he wants to do it.
“At the same time, we have to protect him and make sure that when he gets back in the team, he is ready to do
that and to whatever extent of minutes we can use him, so it’s going to be crucial with the moment he starts to
train with the team to see how he is feeling and how he is evolving day-to-day.”
He’s training today with us and let’s see how it goes in the next couple of days.’
Arsenal make the short journey across north London to face Tottenham on Sunday, with José Mourinho’s side
currently top of the Premier League. 2,000 socially-distanced fans were at the Emirates to watch Arsenal
maintain their perfect Europa League record with an emphatic victory over Rapid Vienna.
